Haley had her 6 week follow up x-ray this morning. Luckily, her leg is healing up beautifully! She now has freedom to move within the house freely. She can go up the stairs and be on the wood flooring. For the next 4 weeks we are to take her on short leashed walks outside each day. We are to start out with one block and each week increase the walk by a block or so. If she handles this well without limping she will have full unrestricted activity in 4 weeks! We are planning to get her into hydrotherapy once the baby arrives and I can be home to take her. She really needs to build up her muscle mass in her hind legs now. She is still lifting herself up with her front legs.
We are holding off on the second surgery until next fall/winter. The Dr. told me today that if she doesn't begin to favor her left leg that we shouldn't even do the surgery. He said that if she builds up enough muscle mass in her right leg she may be able to be comfortable without having to operate on the second leg. Keep your fingers crossed! That would be wonderful!
